More from Carl about the event:

Midsummer's Eve has always had a special place in my heart, as I'm sure it does for many other people. The shortest night of the year where the everyday world takes on a more mystical feel. Where trees whisper as you pass and the natural world takes on a mythical feel, peeling away our every day worries and putting us back in touch with the pulse of nature.

I have developed Midsummer's Magic as a storytelling event  (recommended for adults and children over 12 years of age) that creates an experience to conjure the true essence of Midsummer. The Roundhouse and the abundant natural beauty of the woodland create a backdrop for a special telling of tales from the Mabinogi, with acoustic musical accompaniment by Chris Day.

The Mabinogi is world renowned and arguably contains tales which are considered among the earliest surviving stories in human culture. Their origin and meaning is debated the world over, but one thing is certain, they originated within the oral tradition. To be honest, I always found the language of the books hard to digest but then that is because the stories were always meant to be told, not read from a page. When heard through the oral tradition, delivered in the way they were always meant to be experienced  - the Mabinogi becomes lively, vibrant, and exciting; carrying us into new worlds born from the past.

Midsummer Magic draws upon the pagan roots of the Mabinogi, telling the tales from the first three branches in a relevant and entertaining style.

It promises to be an evening not to be missed.
