Commissioned by Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival (BtB), I joined up with British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter Anthony (Tony) Evans to create a rather special performance.
BSL interpretation of storytelling performances is not new, but creates a division within the audience. Deaf audiences receive the story from the Signer and hearing audiences receive the story from the teller - 2 different experiences within the same performance.
This performance shatters that division - a seamless integration of story, spoken word and BSL that unites an audience in a celebration of story and more than spoken word communication.
